Locksmith in TorontoSticking lock?
Worn key? Sorted.

A key that needs jiggling, a bolt that only throws when you lift the handle, a cylinder that spins loose in the door. These are small annoyances in Toronto homes that become lockouts if ignored. We tune, rebuild or swap the part at fault and leave the door working like it did when it was new.

Rekey, repair, replace: whatever the door needs.

  1. Straight talk about your options. We describe what each choice does and what it asks of you in effort, disruption and future flexibility, so the decision is yours.
  2. Work explained as it happens. If you want to watch, we tell you what each step is for. If you would rather make a coffee, we give you the summary at the end.
  3. Tidiness as standard. A lock change should not leave a mess. We bring what we need to keep the door area clean and we leave it that way.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 58 in 100 homes · older homes
  • About 58% of homes in Toronto were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.Older doors are usually thicker and made of solid wood, which is good news. They take a deadbolt well, hold longer strike screws, and reward reinforcement. The locksmith measures the thickness and backset so new hardware fits without fresh holes.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 23% of homes in Toronto (2021 Census).Suite doors in buildings often have a viewer, a chain and a deadbolt fitted at different times. A locksmith can tidy that into one sound arrangement, with a properly set deadbolt and a strike that holds, without altering the door's face.

Ask us anything about locks

The intruder found our spare keys. What should be rekeyed?

Everything those keys fit. That usually means the front, back and side doors, the garage man-door, the mailbox and any padlocks, and in a rental the suite door with the landlord's involvement. Rekeying changes a serviceable cylinder to answer to a new key, and a cylinder that cannot be rekeyed is replaced instead. Doing every affected opening in one visit, keyed alike where the cylinders are compatible, means no forgotten door still answers to the stolen ring.

Does stamping keys 'do not duplicate' stop copies?

It asks; it does not compel. The stamp is a request that a key-cutting counter may or may not honour, and manufacturers say as much. Real control comes from a restricted keyway, whose blanks are issued only through authorised channels against a key card, or simply from knowing how many keys exist and who holds them. A rekey resets that count to a number you chose.

Do I have to prove I own the home before you change a lock?

The locksmith will ask, and it is a sign of a careful trade. Photo identification with the address, a deed or property tax notice, or a mortgage or insurance document is plenty for an owner. Tenants show a lease and the landlord's consent; landlords show ownership and confirm the tenant will receive keys. It is a short step that protects everyone with a right to that door.

How often should a safe combination be changed?

There is no fixed schedule; the sensible trigger is a change in who knows it, such as an employee or manager leaving, rather than a set number of months or years. A combination that has only ever been known to current staff generally does not need changing on a routine basis, since the lock itself does not wear out from correct use the way a mechanical part might.
